Movie Night: Monsters Inc.
The Ismaili Center 2323 Allen Pkwy, Houston, TXJoin us for the second movie night under the stars at the Ismaili Center! Bring your own blankets or chairs, and come early for lawn games before the movie. Doors open at 6:30 PM for lawn games and the film begins at 7:30 PM. We're screening Monsters Inc., Pixar's monster-filled comedy about an unlikely friendship that changes everything. Come laugh, cheer, and enjoy a fun night out with family and friends.

Whether you're new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, this is a great opportunity to move, unwind, and connect with others in the community. After the session, stay and socialize with fellow participants while enjoying coffee and specialty beverages. This event is free to attend, but registration is required. Participants must be 16 years of age or older. Please bring your own yoga mat, and we recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the session.

In Conversation: Gabriel Martinez and Philip Kelleher-Rios
The Ismaili Center 2323 Allen Pkwy, Houston, TXJoin us for a conversation between Gabriel Martinez and Philip Kelleher-Rios on his solo exhibition, Article, now on view in the Exhibition Gallery. Light bites at 2:30pm Conversation begins at 3:00 PM Martinez’s exhibition centers on a monumental hand-sewn textile work, building on his ongoing engagement with material circulation, labor, and shifting conditions of value within his broader body of work. Based in Houston, Martinez highlights the material and labor histories of textiles in relationship to the city, and how to find new meanings of care for the environment and the body within the artwork. Philip Kelleher-Rios writes on contemporary visual art and its cultural and historical contexts. The conversation will highlight questions on materiality, place, craft traditions, and care for the environment in Martinez’s art practice, considering Article’s engagement with both the city of Houston and the Ismaili Center’s cultural values. Join Jim Parsons of Preservation Houston for an engaging presentation about the history of this community, which began more than a century ago. Learn how Houston’s most storied neighborhoods came to be and what makes Montrose, Montrose. Check-in and networking with light refreshments begin at 6:00 PM. Aga Khan Master Musicians
The Ismaili Center 2323 Allen Pkwy, Houston, TXThe concerts bring together five exceptional performers from the Aga Khan Master Musicians collective. Wu Man is a world-leading virtuoso on the pipa, a Chinese lute, and a passionate advocate of her country’s traditional music. Syrian-born multi-instrumentalist Basel Rajoub has developed an entirely new repertoire for the saxophone, while his compatriot Feras Charestan is a master on the qanun, a Middle Eastern plucked zither. Turkish oud master Yurdal Tokcan and Uzbek Abbos Kosimov, a virtuoso on the doira frame drum, complete the outstanding quintet of Aga Khan Master Musicians. They are joined by two eminent French musicians who are themselves celebrated for their explorations across musical genres. Award-winning accordionist, singer, and composer Vincent Peirani has worked across jazz, contemporary music, and improvisation, while Vincent Ségal is a renowned cellist and bassist who has collaborated with artists including Sting, Cesaria Evora, and Elvis Costello. All seven accomplished musicians worked together to devise entirely new music in which their respective traditions intermingled and cross-fertilized. The results—revealed to huge acclaim in their world-premiere performance in Paris—are a collection of jointly created works inspired by the ancient routes that connected trade and culture between Asia and the Mediterranean. This cross-continental collaboration is a celebration of sonic richness and cultural heritage, brought to life by some of the most passionate and distinguished voices in global music today. ROCO In Concert: Fellow Travelers
The Ismaili Center 2323 Allen Pkwy, Houston, TXROCO (River Oaks Chamber Orchestra) continues its 22nd season with Fellow Travelers, exploring companionship and shared humanity through music. Conductor Rei Hotoda returns to lead the chamber orchestra’s debut at Houston's stunning Ismaili Center, with back-to-back performances on Saturday, November 14, at 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2:00 p.m. The program opens with Arvo Pärt's Fratres, followed by Marcus Karl Maroney's Concerto for Chamber Orchestra. Composer-In-Residence Jessica Meyer unveils a new ROCO-commissioned work before the concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Composer-In-Residence Jessica Meyer presents the world premiere of a new ROCO commission inspired by the idea of inner and outer resonance. In her first commission of the season, Meyer explores how our environments shape the ways we listen, respond, and connect with one another. Arvo Pärt's Fratres is one of the Estonian composer's most beloved works. Built on a simple, repeating harmonic pattern that unfolds through a series of variations, the meditative piece creates an atmosphere of reflection and quiet contemplation. Originally commissioned and premiered by ROCO in 2016, Marcus Karl Maroney's Concerto for Chamber Orchestra returns to the orchestra's repertoire, showcasing the ensemble's virtuosity as musical ideas pass between sections in a spirited dialogue. The program concludes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D Major, a vibrantly optimistic work despite the onset of the composer’s deafness at the time. Islamic Arts Festival
The Ismaili Center 2323 Allen Pkwy, Houston, TXRecognized as the largest and most celebrated Islamic arts festival in the United States, the two-day event on November 21st and 22nd, will bring together artists, scholars, performers, and visitors from across the nation for a vibrant celebration of Islamic art, culture, and heritage. Set against the inspiring backdrop of the Ismaili Center, the festival will feature an exciting array of programs, including fine art exhibitions and sales of contemporary and traditional Islamic art, live demonstrations by master calligraphers and artisans, interactive workshops, and a Sufi music program. The Islamic Arts Festival serves as a bridge between cultures, fostering greater understanding and appreciation of the rich artistic traditions of the Muslim world while highlighting their relevance and beauty in contemporary society. With over 5,000 pieces by more than 50 artists on display, visitors can enjoy, appreciate, and purchase art.
